Derek Burridge Knockout: three of five matches go to 18th green

March Golf Club v St Ives Golf Club, CAGU Derek Burridge Knockout

In the first round of the Cambridgeshire Area Golf Union KO on Saturday, March battled to a hard-earned win against a strong team.

Three of the five matches went to the 18th green, with March winning by a score of 3 to 2. Unlike two weeks ago, when the same two sides met in a CAGU League match, the weather was much kinder.

Club captain, Alan Jones, thanked both teams afterwards for a competitive match played in good spirit; and the March team (Chris Elliott & Danny Daniel, Alan Jones & Ray Pescud, Mick Russell & Mark Athow, Simon Moore & Brian Newstead, Derek Wisbey & Roger Watts) for turning out.

A bottle of wine was presented to the winner of ‘nearest the pin’ on the 165 yard par 3 6th hole. A magnificent shot to about 12 feet secured the prize for Jones.
