First marathon for Three Counties runner Knott

Three Counties Running Club member Matthew Knott completed his first Marathon on Saturday.

With official races still not happening because of coronavirus, Matthew trained up to distance and completed the 26.2 miles solo.

He left King’s Lynn at 5am and ran through North and South Wootton, Castle Rising, Sandringham and Dersingham, finishing in a fantastic time of 4h 18m 36seconds.

Meanwhile, as lockdown measures are slowly eased, club members took advantage of Government advice allowing paired running and small groups.

Still observing two metre social distancing rules, members took part in fartlek (Swedish for speed play) follow the leader sessions.

Runners matched up with someone of similar pace, agreed on the length of their session and then did it in two haves.

For one half the first runner would instigate easy, medium and hard sections, with the second runner following, before a break and the second runner taking the lead.

It has been really hard for members solo running so this session really helped with motivation and support.
