‘American’ weather for tennis

WISBECH Tennis Club staged their finals on Sunday with the ladies and men’s singles in the morning and an American Tournament in the afternoon.

The men’s singles was won by James Newton with Gary Fitzjohn the runner up playing some excellent rallies.

The ladies singles was won once again by Margaret Pendall, who this time overcame Sue Beel in the final. The trophies were presented by Mrs Belinda Sutton, president of the Tennis Club.

In the afternoon 20 players had four rounds of tennis on a very hot day in an American Tournament. The players switch partners after each game, and the eventual winners were Jac Goult for the men and Sue Pitcher for the women.

The junior presentations were then made to the most improved players and the overall winner was James Clarke who was presented with the Peter Peukert Memorial Trophy by Mrs Fay Peukert.
