Team Velovelocity took the first two places in the East District 25-mile Championships at Wisbech on Sunday.

Matthew Smith’s 51.17 beat teammate Daniel Bloy into second with 52.53 and Charlie Nurse of North Norfolk Wheelers took third in 54.34.

First Wisbech rider home was Andy Bean, a solid ride in the conditions. Lady junior, Jennifer McAndrews of Witham Wheelers was fastest lady in 1.00.47 but being out of the district was ineligible making the winner, vet, Sally Whithey of VC Norwich with 1.05.04. Second Wolsey RC vet Karen Eaton 1.07.36, third (1.11.17 , PB) Wisbech vet Lou Campion.

Wisbech’s John Brown (73) managed 1.05.06 which made him one year older but two minutes quicker than last year giving him third in the handicap.

On Tuesday evening in the first of the midsummer 15-milers, strong headwinds on the homeward leg left riders struggling for good times and the strongest was Mat McClure.
