March Bears 75pts,
Shelford 5ths 14 pts
March soon got their game together and good interplay between backs and forwards saw prop forward Chris Devany power over for March Bears’ first try to take a 5-0 lead.
This was followed up by a try from Giles Skiba converted by Matty Day to extend their lead.
Centre John Aspinwall stole the ball from a maul and touched down and the trusted boot of Day converted. With the forwards’ quick rucking and mauling good work from Ben Saxby created the space for youngster Josh Rose to touch down, again Day converted.
The Bears were flying now and skipper Aaron Boxall’s good support play was rewarded when he sprinted in from 25 yards out to touch down for his first try for the club, Day stepped up again to convert. The big forwards from Shelford started to batter the visitors’ defence, eventually their efforts were rewarded as they touched down for a converted try.
This only spurred the Bears on and replied with tries from Ben Saxby, John Aspinwall and Day who converted them for a 54-7 lead at half-time.
Shelford started the second half well and reduced the deficit.
As Shelford started to tire, Bears added two tries from Giles Skiba converted by Day and Aspinwall (mom) completed his hat-trick of tries and Day completed the scoring with his last conversion of the match.
On Saturday the Bears are playing away to Saffron Walden 3rd XV in the Super Deuxieme Cup (Lower). The incentive to win is a semi final home game against Wendon.
