Cambs win short mat friendly

Cambridgeshire Senior Short Mat Bowls squad entertained Kent Invicta senior squad in a friendly game at the March Indoor Bowls Club on Saturday.

This is the first time that the squad have used this spacious facility for their games and on Saturday 60 players played on five mats. Four games of seven ends were played before and after a buffet lunch that had been provided by Cambridge.

Competition between the two teams for The Challenge Shield was started last year and Saturday’s game was the 2014 Cambs home leg. The Kent squad were in form and pushed Cambridge right until the last round.

Final score: Cambridgeshire 44 points (264 shots) Kent 36 (228).
