Chatteris resident Matt Waters and a few friends from the town are in the process of setting up a new Chatteris Cycling Club (CCC).
The spinning instructor and keen road cyclist said: “Chatteris has never had an affiliated cycling club which surprises me as it is a vibrant sporting town.
“I have been toying with this idea for a few years now but due to my military commitments I was never in a position to take such a big task on.
“We want to be affiliated with British Cycling (BC) come January 2016, along with our website going live at the same time.
“At present we have around 50-60 members on our Facebook page which was set up a few months ago to see if there was enough interest in pursuing setting up the club.
“We have been overwhelmed with positive feedback from the community and have also been given kind support from Lydia and Steve Payne, owners of The Sportsman in Chatteris, who will lay on breakfast baps and coffee for our early morning road rides every weekend.
“I plan to help in the long run by becoming a fully qualified BC coach by the time I leave the Army in 2018. In November I will start my Wattbike Advanced Instructors Course.
“We are also planning MTB trips over to use the trails/runs in Thetford Forest, BMX trips, coaching kids, a Female Only Road Ride and a Vets Road Ride.”
