WISBECH Rugby Club’s annual players and awards dinner was held on Thursday, April 21.
President Pete Turner thanked all those that played and helped during the season, expressing support for new coach Ben McCall when training recommences.
Prior to second team captain Jim Mitchell’s speech, two club awards were presented. Clubman of the Year was Shaun Etherington who has done an enormous amount of work with the junior section. Paul Boyle was awarded the Chairman’s cup for the sterling work on the house and grounds. Mitchell presented two awards: Most improved second team player Ryan Tate and second team player of the year Josh Anderson.
Club captain Tom Long put the emphasis on next season in Eastern Counties One and hoped that the players would commit to achieving promotion. Tom presented the Players player of the year to Chris Newns and the first team player of the year to Will Pettit. Shane Vickers, the vice captain, made special mention of Chris Newns and Andy McCubbin who both travel to Canada soon.
