CMB hold memorial

CMB Bowls Club held their annual Les Howard memorial trophy game at their Railway Road green, Wisbech with 48 bowlers from the local area attending. An admirable £400 was raised for the Hudson Palliative Care.

Playing in four leagues the winners from each league played in the semi-final to establish the finalists.

Winners of the final were Steve Engledow and Ralph Jackson, St Lawrence BC with runners-up Mick Stevenson and John Lygo, Manea BC.

Trophies, sponsored by Terry and Tina Hawkins Fenland Fire appliance, were presented by Edna Howard (Les Howard’s widow) and Terry Hawkins.

Thanks go to John Fox for organising the tournament; Nancy, Jen and Jenny for refreshments and Kath and Andy for selling so many raffle tickets.

l Chatteris Town Bowls Club held their annual Finals Day on Sunday.

Ten matches were played altogether, followed by the presentation of the trophies to the winners by the club’s chairman, Marilyn Bishop.

Winners were: Ladies’ 2 Bowls Singles (EBF) - Cynthia Spooner. Handicap Singles - Sandra Ashley. Ladies’ Pairs - Kathleen Hotston, Cynthia Spooner. Men’s Pairs - Gordon Phillips, Barry Ransley. Mixed Singles (sets) - Mike Royce. Mixed Pairs - Kathleen Hotston, Barry Ransley. Ladies’ 4 Bowl Singles - Sandra Ashley. Men’s 4 Bowl Singles - Mike Royce. Men’s 2 Bowl Singles (EBF) - Barry Hotston. Triples Knockout - Roger Mahoney, Richard Davies, Cynthia Spooner.

l North Cambs Men’s Bowling Association AGM will be held on Sunday, October 14 at The 3 Tuns Public House, Norwich Road, Wisbech, 13 2AP, with a 7:30 start.

All life members and affiliated clubs welcome.
