MARCH maintained top spot in the EML Division 2N with an 8-2 win away to Cambridge City 3rds.

In contrast, March 2nd remain bottom of Division 3NW despite a fine 2-2 draw away to St Neots.

In Division 5NW, March 3rds went down 7-3 at home to Alford 1sts.

March started well and opened the scoring through Ben Wright but once Alford settled their strength showed through. March conceded three goals before Dan Shirley pulled one back.

Early pressure in the second half by March could not force a goal and it was Alford who converted to go 4-2 up, but up stepped Shirley again for 4-3.

From then it was mostly Alford pressure, March conceding three unanswered goals. Man of the match Scott Bamford had by far his best game of the season keeping the score down to seven,

Alford have scored double figures in no fewer than five of their 12 games and the best team March have faced in this league.

March 4th played some decent hockey at home to St Ives 4th but went down 4-2 in the 6NW (S) fixture.

They found themselves three down to the table toppers at half time.

Toby Odlin made it 3-1 before Ives scored their fourth and with two minutes to go David Woods pulled one back to complete the day’s scoring. March play with a very young side but each week they are a credit to the club sometimes performing way above what might be expected of them.

Spalding Ladies scored a 4-1 win over March Ladies.
