Wisbech Tennis Club staged their club Singles Tournament last week, and a new name will go on the Ladies Singles Trophy.
Wendy Cropp and Margaret Pendall played a thrilling game, pushing each other from start to finish.
Cropp took the title 7-5, 6-3 to end Pendall’s nine-year reign on the trophy.
The final of the men’s singles was extremely close between Gary Fitzjohn and 17-year-old Jack Briggs, playing in his first singles final. Gary took the title, winning 10-8 in the third set tie-break (6-7, 6-3, 7-6).
The Junior Awards were presented by Belinda Sutton, club president, to the most improved players: Under 6 Evelina Viserneva; Under 8 Jack White and Luke Hayes; Under 10 Jennifer Burke; Under 12 Janhardhan Shyam; Under 14 Toby Stenning.
The overall winner presented with the Peter Peukert Memorial Trophy, was 14-year-old Lorna Cochrane, who also reached the semi-final of the ladies singles event.
