Wisbech jetski ace James Bushell has returned home from Thailand in triumph after making sporting history by becoming the first Brit to win the coveted King’s Cup.

The Sea-Doo World, European and British champ is celebrating the perfect end to his 2014 racing season after adding the King’s Cup Pro Open championship win to his incredible sporting achievements.

The champ, who has been racing competitively since he was a young boy and has had to devote a room at home to house his many trophies, was “over the moon” after finally securing the win that has eluded him.

He said: “OMG, I’ve finally won the King’s Cup! After being runner-up for the last two years I’m so delighted that I’ve won the most prestigious cup you can win and it feels really good.”

After finishing second on the podium in the past, Bushell was determined to take the top slot and did not disappoint in the four Motos in Thailand.

Despite a few tuning problems which resulted in the spare engine being installed in James’s Sea-Doo RXP-X ski, it was soon all systems go for the first race.

Bushell explained: “For the first time at the King’s Cup I got the inside track and I had a great start. I just kept on pulling away from other riders. Though a few riders did break down it was a brilliant start and I got a first race win.”

Moto 2 also saw Bushell finish in third place – a result he was pleased with given the fact that the two riders who finished ahead of him had had poor results in the first race. This meant he was able to increase his overall lead going into the final day of racing.

The third race saw Bushell finish in second place and after adding up his points and those of his rivals, it soon became clear that the world champ would have to finish in at least eighth place to win the trophy he so wanted to win.

Bushell said:“As I crossed the finish line in second place it meant I had won the IJSBA King’s Cup for the first time.”

He is a partner in Tallington and Tattershall-based 158 Performance which is named after his race number.
