Fenland Running Club’s members have some big races this Spring and they used the Sleaford Striders AC Half Marathon as part of their preparation.
Dean Powley, who will take part in the Milton Keynes marathon (April 29), secured a personal best time by three minutes despite a strong, cold wind and a muddy course on the plain around Cranwell air base.
Clocking 1:48-03, he was disappointed not to be quicker – but finished in 158th after training alone for many weeks this winter.
Tim Chapman’s target race is the Coniston 14 – one lap of Lake Coniston on March 31 – and cruised round the course in 1:30-43, finishing 51st in a field of 337 finishers.
Leanne Ricketts was close to Powley at the finish and completed the 13.1 mile course in 1:48-53 (166th), which was a strong performance over such terrain.
