In the Wisbech League Steve Goodale and Allan Nicholls for Walton Highway ‘B’ grabbed maxi-mums from The Fossils and they also teamed up to take the doubles for their team’s seven points.
Fossils’ Jerry Irving, Tim Hines and Derek Windsor got a valuable point against David Hughes.
Walton Highway ‘A’s Peter Munch, Grant Brightey and Paul Reed had a hard match against the Eagles’ Richard Mussett, Owen Turner and Mark Pearman.
Eagles were flying with three games over in just three ends. The other seven games took a lot longer with four going all the way to five ends. Turner and Pearman bagged maximums in their singles and they took an easy doubles win. Reed took his game with Mussett to five ends, winning the fifth 11-5, thus saving a whitewash.
Squashed Kestrels, second in the league, were at home to the Wanderers team of Kevin and John Buck and George Norman. Dale Parnell for the Kestrels was considered the man of the match when he first beat John Buck in three ends 11-8, 12-10, 12-10.
He then had a marathon against John’s son Kevin winning 13-11, 11-8, 2-11, 10-12, 11-4. Winning his third singles against Norman gave him his third maximum of this season. Callum Brown, another promising junior, won a hard five ender against Kevin 11-8, 13-11, 9-11, 4-11, 11-9.
He wasn’t able to get his third maximum of the season when he was beaten by John Buck in three. Chris Gay won his three singles and the doubles with Parnell to give Kestrels a 9-1 win.
Rearranged matches in the Sleight Doubles Handicaps saw Pegg Scaffolding just coming away as winners. In the Wanderers against Eagles match the handicap was even greater, but Eagles just managed to pull it off.
