MICHAEL KING (16, pictured) from Walpole Roller Hockey Club played for England’s under 17 team in Portugal.

King travelled to Carvahos to compete in his second international tournament. Later in the year he is also hoping to be selected to play in the European Champions competition in France.

He has played for six years now and the last two seasons for Walpole, where he was spotted by national coach Carlos Amaral and asked to attend training.

As well as now playing for England, he has been selected to play for the Eastern Counties for the third year in a row and will be playing the Northern and Southern counties in May.

Sally Calver, Walpole’s club secretary said: “We are so proud of Michael for making the England squad, and we wish him well.”

Walpole Roller Hockey Club train every Tuesday at Skaterz Roller Rink, Mill Lane, Walpole. The beginners session is held at 6pm, all you need is a pair of skates.
