Long Sutton 4ths 2, Leadenham 1

At long last the fourth team’s efforts were rewarded with a win. Their blend of youth and experience fully deserved this reverse of a drubbing they received on the season’s opening day.

Bolstered by a strong spine to the formation, in which Simon Clarke and Stefan Fox were outstanding, Sutton could not believe they trailed at the interval, thanks to a well-worked short corner which proved to be the visitors’ only threat on goal.

In the second half Tom Gant and Calvin Bishop exposed Leadenham’s defence and allowed Ed White and Lee Cousins to run at the retreating cover and twice it was Fox on hand to finish off right wing crosses and claim his side’s first victory of the season.

Long Sutton Ladies 3,

Bourne Ladies 1

Long Sutton kept their unbeaten run intact, putting alot of pressure on the Bourne defence and stringing together some great passing sequences working as a team.

However, half way through the first half Bourne had a breakaway and managed to put away an easy goal past the shocked Sutton defence.

Lachan Reed came close in the later stages of the first half, with a fantastic run and reverse shot that rebounded off the keeper’s head.

This spurred Sutton on and within minutes they had taken the lead by a reverse shot from Lisa Baker. The possession for the rest of the game remained with Sutton, seeing some strong performances from the diamond formation.

Sutton sealed the win with Amy Kirkham slotting the ball home. Leanne Woodhead was player of the match.
