Wisbech 29pts,

Datchworth 6pts

Half-time switches by coach Leonard Veenendaal paid
dividends against London North West 3 opponents in the first round of the Senior Vase on Saturday.

Cheered on by a crowd of around 75, Wisbech took an early lead when veteran prop James Griffin crashed over to score a try with Sam Anderson adding the conversion.

Wisbech became a little anxious and a number of handling errors and technical penalties allowed the visitors to reduce the score at half-time to 7-6.

At half-time Andrew Claydon moved into scrum half and James Napier into flyhalf. Dave Wadsley came on at inside centre.

Wisbech increased the tempo and a powerful
forward drive from the halfway line saw Claydon touch down.

Soon after Jon Turner burst through the visitors defence, Anderson converted.

Wisbech rounded off their try haul when flanker Tom Martell scored after the pack had turned over ball (conversion by Anderson).

Skipper Nathaniel Humphreys was pleased, especially with the solid defence, Solomon Prestidge and James Griffin both put in match-winning performances.

Wisbech are back in league action when they entertain Campions at 3pm on Saturday.

l Tries by David Betts and Luke Green for Fenland Barbarians U13s losing 26-10 at Chesterfield in their first Notts, Lincs, Derbyshire Cup match.
