Hedges steals the show

MARCH ABC held a very successful dinner show last Friday night and had four winners in front of a big crowd at the BRAZA Club

Guests of honour were Dave ‘Boy’ Green and local MP Steve Barclay who presented the trophies including one to Charlie Stevens who was the March boxer of 2011.

Stevens won a national title and Three Nationals championship during the year but his opponent on Friday pulled out.

March’s Harry Rody did a very good job to beat Mitch Williamson of Berry Boys in a 45k bout. He kept behind his jab throughout the bout for a good win.

The best bout of the night feature March’s Danny Hedges who stopped his opponent Reece Mould of Doncaster Plant ABC in the third round of a 50k contest. Danny, who can be inconsistent, turned up on this night against an opponent he had lost to twice.

This time he kept behind his guard and did a good job with his hard punching. Reece took two counts of eight before the referee finally halted the fight.

Danny was named the best boxer of the night and coach Bernie Wing said: “If Danny boxed like this all the time he would take some beating.”

Ben Channing was a third winner for March when he defeated Jimmy Flint (Doncaster Plant ABC) at 49k. This was a very good bout but Ben boxed very well and stuck to his boxing throughout to win on points.

Perce Baxter completed March wins witha points win against Jason Helsby (Finchley ABC) in a 57k bout. This was a very hard fought contest throughout the bout by these two boys. Perce looked stronger in the third round to take the verdict

Wing added: “We had three losers Regan Lazenby, Jack Gleave and Callum Channing. But they all needed these bouts but will be better off for it.”
