Juniors secure first trophy of the season

Wisbech Rugby Club youth teams travelled to Peterborough Rugby Club on Sunday and put in some excellent performances against sides from Ely and Peterborough.

The under 7s took great pride in winning their first trophy of the season in the Peterborough U7 tournament with great teamwork by the club’s youngest players.

Tries from Michal Glowaki (5), Ashton Webb (3), Arthur Wilcox (3), Charley Kirby (2), Ollie Taylor (2) and Connor Loughlin (2).

The tries along with superb support play contributed to the success.

In their first game Wisbech under 11s played Peterborough in a close fought contest, but came away to edge the win 20-15.

Tries: Jack Wicks (2), Aaron Brundle and Luke Green.

Wisbech took up where they left off in an exciting and hard fought match against a well matched Ely side. In an end to end game, there was little to split the teams with a 20-20 draw a fair result,

Wisbech under 9s turned in another impressive display with wins over Peterborough and Ely.

Centre Ben Wilcox scored a hat-trick against the hosts in the first game and scrum half Ewan Samways also crossed twice, other scores came from props Cameron Bullock and Harry Holmes and replacement centre Sam Howat but the try of the match came from winger Luke Fox sprinting in from halfway after collecting an excellent pass from Howat.

A strong Ely side presented a much stiffer challenge, Wisbech running out winners thanks to some excellent defensive work. Wilcox scored a breakaway try midway through the first half, and Samways crossed in the second to make the final score 10-0 to Wisbech.

Peterborough 0 Wisbech 45. Scorers: Wilcox (3), Samways (2), Bullock, Holmes, S. Howat, Fox. Wisbech 10 Ely 0. Scorers: Wilcox, Samways.

Wisbech under 8s started very well with a 5-1 win against Peterborough.

Tries: Joshua Bell, Oliver Murdoch (2) & William Paul (2).

The next two games were against Ely, the end scores a great success for the boys with 4-3 & 7-4 wins.

Tries: Oliver Murdoch (5), Joshua Bell (5) & George Bates.

In the final 3-3 game against Peterborough, the boys showed some great teamwork, and even though they were one player down, there was some strong running and fantastic tagging from Sam Curwen, Oliver Mann, Sam Randall & George Bates.

Tries: William Paul (2) & Oliver Mann. The boys are away next Sunday against Bourne.
