WISBECH swimmer Liam Knight continued his progress with a semi-final place in the 50 metres backstroke at the European Junior Championships in Antwerp.
He recorded a personal best time of 28.68 in the heats and was close to that again with 26.88 in the semi-finals for a 14th place.
Knight was unfortunate not to make the semis in the 100 metres backstroke when a poor turn cost him almost a second. He recorded a time of 57.44 in his heat to finish in 14th place, but the unusual rules for the competition saw him not qualify for the last 16 where six swimmers with slower times were included.
In the 200 metres backstroke he was again just outside a semi-final place with 2min 5.11 secs in 17th place.
The 17-year-old commented: “The championships went all right. I got a personal best in the 50 metres and just out on the 100m. The 200 was a little disappointing but it wasn’t too bad.”
