Long Sutton 1st 3,

Ely City Ladies 1st 1

LONG SUTTON Ladies 1st team are East League 2NW champions.

Sutton entered their last game of the season knowing that they were already promoted, but they needed to win to ensure they were champions.

Sutton started strongly and were soon a goal up after Sarah Walker smashed in a short corner.

Sutton were working extremely hard and running the Ely defence around.

Sophie Hart was making some brilliant runs down the wing and this paid off when Rebecca Kierman flung herself at a ball and was very unlucky to hit the post, but Charlene Leuty was there to clear up the rebound and give Sutton a nice 2-0 cushion.

Ely got into the game and pulled a goal back but this spurred Sutton on and the effort was superb by every member of the team.

After numerous short corners Sutton increased their lead again when Melissa Ludlam deflected in a short corner.

Long Sutton 2nd 0,

Alford Ladies 1st 12

SUTTON took on a strong physical Alford team with some of their regular squad missing and it was not long before the strength of the Alford team began to show through.

Sutton worked hard as a team and never lost their spirit in what was at times a very hard-fought game.

The result however does not reflect this fight with the well drilled Alford team running in 12 goals, with Sutton finishing the game with two players in casualty and three more “walking wounded” amongst the remaining nine.
