Leverington triathletes Sue George and Colin Simpson have qualified for the European Half-Ironman Championships in Majorca.
The pair produced impressive performances at Fritton, near Great Yarmouth, to secure their places in the British age group team for Majorca on October 18.
Having performed well at the Cambridge Triathlon two weeks earlier – where Simpson was runner-up in his age group and George third in hers, they travelled to Fritton looking to secure their qualification.
Competing over a 1.2-mile swim, 60-mile bike and 12-mile run, they defied very wet and windy conditions to qualify.
Simpson won his age group in 5:45:19, finishing 16th overall, while George was fourth lady overall and second in her category in 6:36:20.
The pair, who are members of Fenland Running Club, will now take a break from triathlon as they plan to cycle from Lands End to John O’ Groats over two weeks this month.
