Some 14 March Marlins swimmers competed in this year’s County Championships, resulting in an impressive 61 new PB’s, 39 club records and 11 regional times.
Jessica Shaw gained her regional time in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m and 100m freestyle and the 50m breaststroke. She earned four first places, 11 second places and six third places and made it into all eight finals.
Charlotte Shaw achieved two 1st places, seven second places and a third place in her first counties. She also secured seven club records, 13 new personals bests and made all 50m finals in her age group. Jessica and Charlotte also both came second in their age groups overall.
Elliotte Ledger qualified for regionals in the 100m backstroke, achieved six PBs and took two club records.
Danielle Rayner won the 400m individual medley and was second in the 200m butterfly, both resulting in regional times and club records. She swam in the 200m freestyle and gained third in the Women’s 100m butterfly finals.
Jacob Halls competed in the 50m freestyle, 100m individual medley and the 50m breaststroke, gaining a PB in all three swims.
Saule Majauskis competed in the 50m backstroke, achieving a PB, and also in the 50m breaststroke. Martyn Fresher took part in the 50m breaststroke, as did Ciara Mason.
Jessica Rayner took part in the 50m breaststroke, 100m backstroke and gained a club record in the 200m freestyle.
Georgia Ambrose, Olivia Tunley, Molly McGowen and Rosetta Schauenburg-Kent achieved PB’s in all of their swims. Georgia secured sixth in the Women’s 50m backstroke finals, as well as a club record.
This was the first event for the Marlins under the direction of their new head coach, Andrew Jakeman. Overall the team performed extremely well and have made a great start to 2017.
