Wisbech 3rds 0, March 6

March went into this game with a four-point gap at the top of East Hockey Mens Division 3NW but had to do without top scorer Jody Betts.

March started the game very brightly and Stuart Mills tapped in. Dan Shirley then made it 2-0 as he scored a rebound from his first initial shot.

Mills latched onto a ball over the top from Ryan Wright and scored on the second attempt. Shirley added his second from a rebound from a short corner.

A battling Wisbech started the second half with plenty of possession but couldn’t create any chances. A lack of fitness by the home team allowed the visitors to score thanks to a Ben Wright brace.

Wisbech next weekend v Peterborough 4ths (a) 11.30am. March: home, St Neots, 1pm.

March, playing their first Division 4 NW game in six weeks, started well before their lack of match fitness began to show and a fitter side took advantage.

With some simple well worked hockey Peterborough were five up by half time.

The second half saw March starting to look sharper. Captain Charlie Boughton scored a great goal from a tight angle on the right side of the D and Gary Howsam was disappointed to have his goal disallowed.

In the end Peterborough were too good and too fit for March to make much of an impact.

March travel to Cambridge next weekend.

Ely City 2nds 1

March bagged their 12th consecutive league win.

Louise Minnis secured March’s first goal past the advancing goalie. March were working hard at getting the ball down the wing.

This led to another goal by Minnis. With a one-on-one with the goalie Suzannah Thomas scored March’s third goal, ending the first half 3-0.

In the second half Ely scored, as the goalies made some great saves. Player of the match was Rachel Mottram.
