WISBECH Rugby Club start their pre-season training tomorrow night kicking off at 7pm at Chapel Road.

The club will be looking to build on their promotion from last season to London NE3 and welcome both old and new players the sessions.

Last season’s skipper Tom Long and Shane Vickers (vice captain) have made way for new club captain David Wadsley and vice captain Andy Claydon who have been long established Wisbech players.

Last season’s coach Ben McCall has also moved on. He has been posted to RAF Waddington near Lincoln, and it was felt that the travelling distance was too far for him. Obviously the club wish him well for the future and thank him for his effort over the past two seasons.

Manager Cliff Humphreys said: “We are going to try a different approach to training nights this season. There is a wealth of talented rugby brains at the club who have all stated that they are prepared to assist with training but do not want to take on the job on a permanent basis.

“My job along with David and Andy will be to manage each sessions and to use these very talented people effectively. Hopefully it will keep the training nights fresh and will encourage all club players to attended training on a regular basis.”

Wisbech have also lost the services of prolific points kicker Mark Laws, who is set to join Peterborough Lions, and forward Graham Saunders who has moved away.
