The Wisbech and District Table Tennis Association held its 64th Annual Championships at Marshland High School this weekend.
The Seniors played on Saturday with a reduced entry due to the bad weather and the absence of a number of prominent players from last year’s entry. This has led to seeing new names on the trophies.
In the Open Singles only two of the first four seeds made it to the semi-finals Chad Bassett (1) and Chris Gay (3) who met each other in the top half, Bassett winning through to the final.
In the bottom half the unseeded and much improved Junior Dale Parnell took out the second and fourth seeds to go through. Parnell (18) overcame No 1 seed Bassett in four ends 6-11, 12-10, 11-7, 11-8, a very good result.
In the Men’s Doubles the only name from last year to feature in the final was that of John Blyth who with partner Chad Bassett beat Mick Fort and Owen Turner. 14-12, 12-10,7-11,11-8.
