Ladies descended on Huntingdon Racecourse on Saturday from far and wide in pursuit of a brand new car for a year.

That was the prize for the best dressed lady chosen during the inaugural Winter Ladies’ Day.

And the Kia Rio – supplied by the day’s sponsor Boongate Kia Peterborough - went the way of Essex as Leigh-on-Sea lady Georgina Newell was selected for her outfit from Accessorize.

Consolation prizes of an overnight stay and relaxation day at Whittlebury Hall and Spa went to second placed Donna Dinnegan, from Bedfordshire, and Joan Bown, from Northamptonshire.

Among the judges were Tony O’Shea of Boongate Kia Peterborough and racing broadcaster Derek ‘Tommo’ Thompson.

The day also featured the first ever Boongate Kia Peterborough Cambridgeshire National which, at three and three-quarter miles, was the longest horse race at Huntingdon Racecourse in 2013.

It was won by Soudain, trained by Steve Gollings, the father of Huntingdon Racecourse General Manager Nadia Gollings.

There are two more big days of jump racing left at Huntingdon Racecourse in 2013:

Betfred Peterborough Chase Day on Thursday, December 12 (first race, 12.30pm);

Stan James Boxing Day on Thursday, December 26 (12.45pm).
