A RECORD entry of 24 riders turned up for the Wisbech Cycling Club competition on the evening of Tuesday, April 19 and set the timekeeper a real headache, with riders approaching the finish as the last competitor started.
The moderate cross-headwind on the out run was shrugged off by Paul Ashby whose 21.05 came close to the course record. Many riders improved on last week with several pb’s being posted.
New rider Doug McClure showed the best improvement with a 24.58 in only his second race.
It was hardly a first appearance for supervet Tom Blanchflower who first raced for Wisbech Wheelers in the 1940s, and who, after hundreds of events can still cover ten miles in 32.39 this early in the season,
On Good Friday King’s Lynn CC held their annual event and Wisbech Wheelers were well represented.
King’s Lynn fast man Gary Rushmore was quickest overall in 21.41, but with all the Wisbech top seeds missing it fell to a steadily improving Stuart Emmett to lead the Wisbech contingent in.
