Perry in great start

CHATTERIS snooker star Joe Perry has made a great start to 2012.

On Saturday night he qualified for the Haikou World Open in China next month with a comfortable 5-1 win against Anthony Hamilton.

And earlier this month Perry lost out to Stephen Maguire 4-2 in the PTC 12 final at Event Forum in Germany.

Perry was in his second final of the season but Maguire took a 2-0 lead before Perry fired a superb clearance of 63 to clinch the third frame. Maguire took the next frame 92-23 but back came Perry to stay in the match at 3-2 with a 75 break.

Maguire took the final with a break of 62 to claim a 98-2 victory. Afterwards Perry admitted he did well to take two frames off Maguire, who was in top form.

Perry, who is now ranked 26th in the world, takes on Mark Selby in the one-frame World Snooker Shoot Out in Blackpool later this month.
