Shield success is only tournament triumph

WISBECH Under 7s, the only Wisbech team to get through to the final, won the U7 Shield Final at the Spalding Rugby Festival at the weekend.

They beat Stamford 1sts 10-3, tries were scored by Jenson Nunn 3, captain Oliver Mann 2, Ben Wilcox 2, Joshua Bell 1, Will Griffin 1 and Oliver Murdoch 1.

They drew 3-3 with Spalding, tries by Wilcox 2 and Griffin 1; and 3-3 with Lincoln, tries scored by Wilcox 2 and Bell 1.

In the final they defeated Boston 7-5 (Bell 3, Wilcox 3 and Murdoch 1).

Wisbech U10s put up a brave performance, narrowly losing 2-1 a tight first match against Peterborough. 

The Wisbech try scorer was Frank Etherington.

A well drilled Stamford team beat Wisbech 6-1. Scorer was Cameron Finlay, who made an impressive half pitch run from the off.

In the final match Wisbech beat Lincoln 2-1; scorers were Finlay Wilcox and James Shell. Impressive performances came from Finlay Mead and Henry Hoyles.

Player of the week was new boy Hoyles.

Wisbech U8s played fantastic rugby in four great matches.
