MORE than 50 students took part when Shotokan Karate Club held an Olympics event recently at the Wisbech Hudson Leisure Centre.

It was split into sections for junior and senior students. All students drew a country flag and this was the country that they represented.

Students sparred on a round robin basis and each student had a record of wins and points scored totalled up. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded for both sections.

The event was held as part of the Join In UK programme to continue in the Olympic spirit.

Overall medal winners were:

Senior section – Dee Hughes (representing China) gold, Ryan Gowler (Russia) silver, and Annabel Homewood (Kenya) bronze.

Junior Section – John Heath (Poland) gold, Tyler Wallis (Japan) silver and Oscar McCarthy Aske (South Africa) bronze.

The club will be holding similar events again in the future. For class details contact 07843 414433 or
