Wisbech Ladies 3rds 2, Newmarket Ladies 3’s 0
Fired up from two wins last weekend, Wisbech were keen to maintain their winning streak.
Possession went Wisbech’s way in the first half. Despite several short corners and shots on goal, frustratingly, at the end of the first half the score remained 0-0.
The second half started well, and the elusive goal finally came from Holly Stevenson. Some fantastic work from the defence kept Newmarket from equalising, and a further goal by Kate Stevenson sealed the deal.
PoM: Ruby Shepherd and Harriet Bateman.
Cambs City 4, WTHC Men 1
Wisbech travelled with only four players out of their original 15-man squad.
City finished a short corner to give them the lead. Wisbech remained positive and gained a short corner 10 minutes later, finished by Sam Blunt via a low hard drag flick. Wisbech pushed hard in the last few minutes but this led to a second City goal.
Wisbech came out fighting in the second half and kept the score level until the last eight minutes with some awesome saves by Tom Peggs, including a penalty flick and good team-work from all 11.
Wisbech tried to even the scores but this left them open at the back giving City two more goals.
Another great performance by a very inexperienced Wisbech, who face another tough away match at Harleston Magpies on Saturday.
Wisbech 3rd 5, Alford 1
Alford wanted the points and came out fighting whilst Wisbech were still waking up.
However, goals from Dom Garford, Howard Atkin, Elliot Peck, Pete Shippey and a wonder goal from midfield general Ryan Parker sealed the points.
Next the 3rds have a weekend off which will help with their injury list.
Men’s 4th: Match cancelled.
