Wisbech racer George Russell (16) emerged from a dramatic weekend in the Formula Renault ALPS series with a strong fourth-place finish on the twisty Pau street circuit in France.
He did an excellent job in his first-ever street race to score more points with the Koiranen GP team. Russell had been third fastest in his qualifying group to put him fifth on the grid.
“I made a really good start but there wasn’t enough room to move up any positions,” he said.
The teenager didn’t even get to start the second race from the grid due to a suspected clutch failure. Russell retains his third place in the championship heading to the next round, at Austria’s Red Bull Ring on May 24/25.
He will defend his points lead in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship at Brands Hatch next weekend.
