Sutton seal fightback

Long Sutton Ladies 1st 2, Cambridge Nomads 1st 2

Long Sutton started the second half of the season top of the table and went into their first game back very positively.

Despite this they started the game very slowly, letting Nomads put too much pressure on the defence and ended the first half 1-0 down.

After a very enthusing half-time team talk, Sutton started the second half stronger, but this did not last long and they were then 2-0 down.

This seemed to make them more determined and Robyn Gribble grabbed a goal back, after dribbling the ball around the last defender and keeper.

Soon after Gribble again dribbled the ball across the D and slotted the ball across the face of the D for Charlene Leuty to level the score.

They continued to apply pressure and Sutton had numerous goal scoring opportunities to take the lead.

Melissa Ludlam made a solo run and hit the ball home from the top of the D, but it was disallowed because neither umpire saw that it was inside the D.

Sutton were very unlucky not to take the three points, which saw them drop to second place. Player of the match was shared between Tania White and Sally Cade.

Long Sutton Men’s 2nds 6, St.Neots 2nd 1

After being beaten away to St Neots earlier in the season Sutton showed their true strength with a fully fit squad easing itself to a comfortable victory.

They scored three goals in each half and only conceded a single goal in the last few minutes.

Stand out performances came from Michael Carter, Conner Allan and Nic Bailey (mom).
