Cambridge South 2nd 2,

Wisbech Town 2nd 4

Wisbech gained another win, keeping them at the top of Division 3NW, but not without a scare.

Jason Esser opened the scoring, deflecting Sam Dunn’s bouncing penalty corner strike into the goal.

Matt Goodwin then doubled Wisbech’s lead with a neat turn and shot. The half-time scoreline of 2-0 flattered Wisbech.

The second half proved different. Within 15 minutes of the restart, Cambridge had drawn level. For the second time in successive weeks Wisbech looked vulnerable.

Fortunately, Lee Peck was on hand to convert a cross from the right and soon after Hugo Atkins scored Wisbech’s fourth. It was a below par performance, but another important away win.

On Saturday Wisbech 2 host City of Peterborough 5 at 11.30am.

Wisbech Mens 3rds 3,

Cambridge South 4

Wisbech started brightly in this home game and caught Cambs South napping as the game flowed around the men in green.

Wisbech scored two goals through Dan Martell after some good possession play in the build up, but these were overshadowed by his third goal which was a penalty flick, awarded after a shot was stopped by the body of a Cambs player on the line.

The resulting flick found the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

From this fantastic start Wisbech started to fade after losing Roger Goode after being hit in the face by the ball.

He came back later in the game but by this time Cambs South had scored three goals two of which were from unmarked forwards.

Wisbech desperately tried to hang on but were caught out defending too deep in their own half.

Despite some brave defending from Paul Lawrence and Ivan Burgess, Cambs South managed to sneak a final goal to claim the victory.
