The firsts enjoy a friendly victory

March Town Hockey Club firsts had a 6-4 win over Ely in a friendly on Saturday.

Ely soon led 2-0 but seconds before the half-time whistle. Ed Batt found Rob Mitchell at the far post and Mitchell opened his account for the season.

Ely led 3-1 after the break but Ash Welland and Mitchell struck goals to make it 3-3.

Back came Ely to lead again at 4-3 but March responded well with goals from Mitchell to complete his hat-trick, Batt and a second from Welland to win the game.

March’s next clash is against Long Sutton on Tuesday September 13 at the Peele Leisure centre 7.30pm.

March ladies lost 6-0 at Spalding in the cup when they started with just nine players and were 3-0 down at half-time.

During the half time interval two more players arrived and this made things more difficult for Spalding. Despite the result, there were some pleasing aspects for March.
