Wisbech Wheelers riders stole the show in the East District 50-mile Championships near Besthorpe organised by Godrick CC on Sunday.
Veteran Paul Ashby took the men’s title with a time of 1.48.35. Becky Taylor was top lady in her first outing at the distance in 2.06.58 and junior Andy Bean, also a first time 50 miler, took the junior title in 2.11.02.
Senior Mike MacInerney put in a 25 mph plus performance with 1.58.30, and following were veterans Andrew Ward 2.06.49 and Adrian Whiting 2.13.11. The day before, lady vet Denese Hallahan travelled to the Hinckley CRC 10-mile promotion. Her time of 28.46 was a strong ride in windy conditions.
The last of three 15-milers in the Wisbech evening series was also run off hard conditions with seven and a half miles of headwind on the return leg. Stuart Emmett managed to chip a second off his previous week’s time with 36.26.
