A young 1st XV side at Wisbech Grammar School has kicked off the season with a trophy winning performance when they won the plate at the Hampshire Collegiate School festival in Embley.

The Wisbech boys topped their pool after beating Northampton Boys’ Brigade Old Boys rugby club 17-0, drawing 5-5 against King Edward VI School, Southampton and notching up a 5-3 victory against the host school.

In the semi-final the Grammar School went down 8-5 in a tight match against Monkton Combe School, Bath, and played in the plate final against Churcher’s College, Petersfield.

The Wisbech forwards worked hard in the loose, which allowed two tries from open play in a convincing 12-3 win.
