Ipswich 3rds 1, Wisbech Ladies 1st 4
Wisbech continued their unbeaten run with a defiant win away at Ipswich.
Even with a number of the team playing out of position, Wisbech looked the more comfortable on the ball and soon passes were flowing nicely around the pitch. They were soon rewarded when Emma Baker converted a short corner after dancing through the defence.
The away team continued to pile on the pressure with the defence and midfield feeding great balls through to the attackers. On her first team debut, Polly Rosier soon added her name to the scoresheet when she cooly deflected in, with a first time shot, a ball played in across the D.
Ipswich did not give up and were awarded a short corner, which they converted to pull a goal back. However Wisbech were not finished for this half yet, and after another prolific attack Baker scored her second to make it 3-1 to Wisbech at the break.
In the second half Ipswich came out trying to close the gap with a number of attacks. However the Wisbech defence dealt with this well and Lisa Williamson swept in to confidently smash the ball into the back of the net tpo round off a superb team performance.
Wisbech host St Ives next Saturday at 1pm.
Cambridge South 5 Wisbech Ladies Seconds 2
Wisbech seconds still maintained third position in the table despite this defeat.
The side saw two first class debuts from Emily Brown and Emily Brooker. Player of the match award was shared by Marly Lawson, sustaining a bloody nose on the way, and Sarah Matthews keeping the tally down in goal.
Wisbech’s first goal came from a well worked short corner firmly injected by Shelly Jones, controlled by Laura Overland and perfectly hitting the back board following a well placed shot from Lou Sandall.
The second goal came in the second half after a great ball from Laura Overland started the play.
The Ladies play Huntingdon away on Saturday in the Cambridgeshire League Cup 10am push back at St Ives.
New players always welcome at training 6.30 every Tuesday at The Harecroft Road Astro Turf.
