Walpole’s long-awaited return

For the first time in nearly two decades the Wisbech Hudson Leisure Centre saw competitive roller hockey when Walpole Roller Hockey Club held its first home tournament.

Teams from Letchworth, Cambridge and Colchester all took part. Walpole got their season off to a great start with an outstanding win over Colchester. Walpole took an early 2-0 lead and continued to hold on despite Colchester’s constant pressure, with a final score of Walpole 7, Colchester 5.

Club chairman Ian King said: “I am delighted with how well the tournament has gone. All the club members made a great effort in preparing the hall and ensuring that everything runs smoothly on the day. Plus we had the added bonus of our first win.”

Walpole Roller Hockey Club are currently looking for new younger players aged 7 to 11, they train at the Hudson every Tuesday. All you need is a pair of skates. For more details see www.walpolerhc.kk5.org.
