The last Tuesday evening Wisbech Wheelers ‘10’ is a non-counting event in the competition and many riders took the opportunity to ride in pairs.
First of the solos was Mat Webster in 21.26 but incredibly he was beaten by 68-year-old Pete Baldwin in 21.08. The fact that Andy Bean climbed onto the back of the tandem and propelled him round the course faster than he had ever been may have contributed to the victory.
In the pairs several riders were helped to quicker times by stronger partners but 13-year-old Eve MacInerney did all the work and her proud dad Mike simply followed her around, letting her take the front for the whole distance. Second of the solos was Mat McClure with Wayne Hall third. Andrew Ward put in a season’s best.
