Wisbech RUFC Under 10s continued their bright start to the season on Sunday finishing as runners-up at the West Norfolk Festival.

Ewan Samways scored the only try in their opening group match against Spalding, then Wisbech followed this with two wins. Wisbech faced Norwich in the semi-finals and played superbly; the final however proved a bridge too far against a strong Wymondham side.

Results: Wisbech 5 Spalding 0. Scorer: Samways. Wisbech 25 Swaffham 0. Scorers: Ben Wilcox (2), George Howat, Luke Hare, Tim Bateman. Wisbech 30 West Norfolk 0. Scorers: Wilcox, Hare (2), Samways (2), Nick Little.

Semi-final: Wisbech 20 Norwich 0. Scorers: Bateman, Fabian Simpson, Wilcox, Harry Holmes.

Final: Wisbech 0 Wymondham 20.

Wisbech Under 8’s started their first competitive festival at West Norfolk with a strong performance in the pools just missing out on a place in the final.

In their first match against Bourne they won convincingly 7 tries to 2. Scorers: Arthur Wilcox 2, Finlay Paul 2, Nye Simpson, Michal Glowacki, Charlie Kirby.

Against Spalding Wisbech won 6-4. Scorers: Cody Wedge 2, Callum Melton 2, Arthur Wilcox, Charlie Kirby.

A draw with West Norfolk 4-4 (Glowacki 2, Melton and Simpson) left Wisbech needing to win against a strong Wymondham to go through to the final, unfortunately they lost 6-4 (Simpson, Kirby, Wilcox and Melton).

Wisbech Under 7’s entered two teams who played well and Wisbech A had an extra game as they were equal on tries and points with Spalding A.

After a long battle Wisbech lost the play off 11-10 which ended a very tight and enjoyable match.

A very good start for a young team.
