All Wisbech Town Hockey Club players put 100 per cent in this weekend at the East Indoor 2015 Tournament.
Despite an extremely tough season so far this year the men put on a fine performance, claiming not only their first draw of the season but their first win.
They played six games over the two days getting a 4-4 draw against Bishop Stortford.
Wisbech controlled the game from the start and despite going down to three players for the first five minutes of the game (one of which was the keeper), the boys passed the ball around beautifully and created some chances, two of which they put in the back of the net via Charles Baxter and Will Denny.
This was followed by a very well worked and well-earned short corner, which was scored by Wisbech late on in the game to leave the score all square. Youngsters Dan Crossley and Tom Culshaw battled hard throughout all games – getting a goal each – and were a credit to the club.
On a high, they went into their next game to finish chances they created, and were solid defensively too. Bill Garner performed some brilliant saves, keeping the men’s first clean sheet of the season – and the only one within the whole tournament! Sam Blunt and Denny scored the five goals within Wisbech’s impressive 5-0 win against Norwich Dragons.
Captain Charles Baxter manages to stay positive week after week in this difficult season. Hopefully Wisbech will continue to win many more in the second half of the 2015 season.
