Wisbech Swimming Club’s run of excellent performances continued, when it took second place in the Senior Fenland League Final at Downham Market, securing second place overall in the league.
West Norfolk were again dominant, scoring 191 points on the night, while Wisbech’s hard-fought 135 points were sufficient to pip Chatteris for second place.
West Norfolk won the league on 210 points, with Wisbech second on 144 and Chatteris third on 142.
Wisbech took five first places and achieved 12 new personal best times from the evening’s 47 races.
The winning swimmers were Charlie Bourne, who took the 12/U 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley (both for PBs), Sam Smith 12/U 50m backstroke, Ben Marsters Open 100m breaststroke and Connor Loughlin, whose 44.53-second time for the 10/U 50m backstroke was also a PB.
Head coach Greg Marsters was delighted with the team’s performance: “This was another good performance from our team. Their second-place finish is one spot higher than last year and a definite move in the right direction.”
