Youths give strong show

Wisbech Rugby Club youth teams travelled to Ely on Sunday and put in some strong performances against sides from Ely and Huntingdon.

Wisbech under 11s beat Huntingdon in a good game 15-10. Wisbech try scorers were Jack Wicks (2) and Henry Hoyles.

In an exciting match against Ely Wisbech dug deep to win 10–5.

Wisbech U9s won one match and lost one. Against a strong Huntingdon team, Wisbech defended well but conceded two tries, Ewan Samways scored (10-5).

Against Ely, fly half Luke Hare inspired the team with two tries, one a stunning length of the field break, Samways completed the scoring in a 15-10 win.

Wisbech U8s played exceptionally well and secured 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses: Wisbech 3 Ely 2, Wisbech 6 Ely 5, Wisbech 5 Huntingdon 5, Wisbech 3 Huntingdon 4, Wisbech 6 Huntingdon 10.

A total of 23 tries were scored. Try scorers; Oliver Mann (2), Oliver Murdoch (2), Freddie Riddington, Rhys Swann (4), Jonathan Harding (2), Billy Nurse, Sam Randall (2), Sam Curwen, William Paul (4), Charlie Riddington and Joshua Bell (3).

Wisbech U7s scored early with Arthur Wilcox the first of three tries. Good direct running by Charley Kirby, Nye Simpson and fantastic tagging by Ashton Webb. Seth Williams stormed over in a draw, 4 tries apiece.

Wisbech matched Ely’s score of three tries. Tries: Connor Laughlan and Michal Glowacka (2). Ty Tooke tagged well with great support from Thomas Mann.

A tired Wisbech conceded a four try lead to a second Huntingdon side. Arthur Wilcox scored a consolation try.
