The weather conditions this summer have kept all but the most determined cyclists away from the Wisbech Wheelers’ Tuesday evening series with only 12 riders this week, when double those numbers could normally be expected by this point in the season.

Undaunted, the Battle of the Beckys continues with Becky Murley taking victory by virtue of her superior power in the strong crosswinds, by over a minute from last week’s winner Becky Hamilton.

The men’s competition was more predictable with Matt McClure taking first, John Talbot second and Matt’s father Doug McClure in third.

The ride of the week is shared between 60+ lady vet Denese Hallahan, who travelled up to Hull for the Team Swift ‘10’ and posted a season’s best of 26.14, and 40+ vet Stuart Emmett with a pb of 21.49 in the Team Sales Engine promotion at Cambridge.

Results, Tue, July 5, 10 miles: Ladies (all vets) – B Murley 26.56, B Hamilton 28.10, L Campion 29.30. Men – M McClure 22.34, J Talbot 23.11, D McClure 24.26, S Emmett 25.54, G Horspoool 26.22, A Bye (vet 60+) 26.45, S Buttriss 27.04, J Brown (vet 70+) 28.19.
