National best swims for Chatteris
Chatteris Kingfishers’ swimmers have been involved in several events recently, the first one being the SC Winter Regional Championships in Luton.
Mark Thompson and Liam Oliver had qualified and Mark swam 25.55 seconds in the 50 freestyle, beating his personal best from four years ago.
He also swam really well in the 100 backstroke and got another PB, 1.04.51.
On day two, both Liam and Mark swam 50m backstroke, both just half a second shy of their PBs and in 100m freestyle Mark produced a solid 56.78. Liam struggled with cramp and got a 57.16.
On Friday evening about 20 swimmers took part in a sponsored overnight swim, from 10pm to 6am, in aid of the club and of Thorpe Hall Hospice, which provides dignified support for individuals and their family just when they need it most.
Despite their lack of sleep, Hallie White and Tom Hanley went on to represent COPS (City of Peterborough Swimming Club) in the second round of the National Arena League in Biggleswade, both getting PBs (in their relay legs), a first (Hallie ,50m free), and second (Tom, 50m free).
Their relay teams won both the 50m free and the 50m medley and COPS won overall.
On Sunday, the club held their annual sprint championships at the Paradise Pool in Ely, 49 swimmers ranging in age from 7 to 30.
They swam 25m (the very young ones) or 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m front crawl, finished off by an 100m I.M., with many swimmers gaining personal best times.
