Cambridge County Junior Cup

Wisbech Wildcats 33 Sawston 20

A Jekyll and Hyde performance by Wildcats as they overcame previously unbeaten Sawston 1st in the first round in very breezy, overcast, conditions.

Wisbech scored their opening try when, from a lineout on five metres, Nathan Goodale crashed over. Shortly after Goodale scored his second try with Harry Newman adding the extra points. However Sawston responded with a try. Wisbech held a healthy half-time lead at 12-5.

Wisbech eased further into the lead when Newman hit the line at pace to touch down and he also added the conversion, 19–5. Sawston added a penalty as Wisbech started to lose their discipline and Sawston capitalised, scoring an unconverted try.

A converted James Bostock try eased matters but Sawston were awarded a penalty try.

However, in the final minutes Newman again showed his pace to score his second converted try.
