Olympic Fund boost for new Chatteris Tennis Club floodlights

Chatteris Tennis Club has been very busy over the winter months with the installation of new floodlights on the two hard surface courts at the Club.

The floodlights were possible due to a £23,944 cash boost from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Olympic and Paralympic Fund, which was awarded to the club in the late Autumn of 2015.

Across the country, local community sports groups were able to apply for grants which were offered to celebrate its link to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The lengthy application process for the grant was no mean feat, and CTC has a debt of gratitude to Simon Grainger and Lindsey Harrison who worked tirelessly over many months in the preparation of reports, meetings with the Council and local residents, and in turn the contractors.

This once in a lifetime opportunity has enabled the club to continue its improvement of its facilities and make the courts more accessible to its members for year round play, not just in the summertime.

The work was carried out by Floodlighting Limited, one of the region’s leading installers of quality sport lighting. The installation of the state of the art LED floodlights was very efficiently handled, with minimum disruption and a rapid completion.

The club’s chairman, Simon Grainger, said: “We were delighted to secure the grant, which will enable us to engage more people of all ages and abilities in the great sport of tennis.

“The lights will enable tennis to be played during the darker winter months and has further upgraded the features of our club for the benefit of our local community.”
