Wisbech Town FC boss Dick Creasey says the injury to Jon Fairweather and a signing falling through will not be problems as he has plenty of options.

Defender Fairweather injured his abductor (stomach) muscle in last week’s 7-0 ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division victory over Harborough Town.

He figured on the bench during the weekend’s 3-0 at Oadby Town, but was not used as a substitute.

Wisbech manager Creasey commented: “We will look at Jon in training this week.

“I looked at the fixture and the physio (Shane Spafford) said Jon was not going to be able to play.

“He worked on Jon on Saturday really hard and will do the same in training.”

The management team will assess the situation for next Saturday’s trip to bottom side Long Buckby.

Creasey added: “It’s not a problem. Paul Cousins had a full 90 minutes for the Reserves and by all accounts did really well. We should be able to cope.

“Everybody else is fit.

“We got Josh Ford a game with a Sunday side and he banged six goals in.

“Luke Wilson dislocated his finger after about 10 or 15 minutes on Saturday, but it snapped straight back in and he soldiered on.”

Creasey said that after a seven-day approach a new player agreed to sign but the Fenmen could not get in touch on Sunday.

“Whether he has had second thoughts, I don’t know,” he added.

In a slight change to the recently announced fixtures, the Wisbech games against Newport Pagnell Town have been transposed.

Wisbech now entertain Newport Pagnell on Saturday, March 7, while their visit to Willen Road is on Saturday, April 11.

This mean Wisbech’s final home game of the season (as it stands) is Easter Monday’s derby clash with Holbeach United, followed by three away games.
